I grew up in Scituate Massachusetts. I spent my childhood wandering the woods, marshes, and beaches of Third Cliff. I was always passionate about drawing, animals, and nature. I started carving at age 12, and I am self-taught.
The style of my high relief carvings has evolved into what I describe as a "modern Rococo." I am deeply influenced by nature in its many forms, past and present. I love carving organic forms and nature provides an inexhaustible well of inspiration.
My sculptures are meant to evoke the beauty of simplicity and as a reminder of the interconnectedness of life.
My 3-D work provides an opportunity to use my knowledge of animal anatomy, biology, and sense of humor to create sculptures of animals, cryptids, monsters, angels and just about anything that comes into my imagination. I enjoy pairing animal species together based on their similar physical traits. These sculptures are meant to evoke humor while also demonstrating my knowledge of animals.
I consider these sculptures modern Folk Art.
At present, I have a studio in the ET Wright Building in Rockland MA where I carve and teach classes and workshops in woodcarving, drawing, watercolors, printmaking and digital art.
